Pricing: similar entry prices, different structures
At the low end the two are close. Webflow's Basic plan is $15/mo billed yearly, and Wix's Light plan is listed at $17.77/mo on yearly billing. They aren't equivalent, though. Webflow's Basic has no CMS, while Wix's Light includes a free domain for the first year and a light marketing suite. Wix's listed monthly figures are for yearly subscriptions paid up front. The page says prices vary by location and that taxes depend on your billing address, so the final price appears at checkout. Webflow lists prices in USD per site, with taxes added at checkout. Webflow also offers monthly billing, and its yearly option is described as saving up to 40%. The monthly prices aren't listed here, so check current pricing.
Content-heavy sites: Webflow spells out the limits
Webflow is explicit about CMS capacity. Starter allows 50 CMS items and 20 collections. Premium allows 20,000 items and 40 collections. It also lists scheduled publishing, per-item publishing and RSS feeds for CMS content. If you plan to run a large blog, a directory, or many location pages, those published limits make it easier to judge fit. Wix has a blog website option and a data platform, but the details aren't spelled out the same way here. If CMS scale matters to you, check Wix's current plan comparison.
Running a business: Wix bundles more in one place
Wix's plans combine marketing, payments, ecommerce and scheduling in one tiered package. Core adds payments, basic eCommerce and scheduling and services. Business and Business Elite step up the marketing suite and eCommerce. Wix also lists restaurant, events, online programs, hotel and fitness tools, a CRM, email marketing and a mobile app. For a salon, coach, studio or small shop, that can mean fewer separate subscriptions. Webflow's strengths here are design control, CMS, hosting and developer features. Check current pricing for its ecommerce and booking options before assuming it can replace those Wix tools.
Free plans: both are for testing, not launching
Wix's free plan has no credit card requirement. Webflow's Starter is limited to 2 static pages, 1 GB of bandwidth and a webflow.io address. Neither suits a real business site. Use them to find out which editor you prefer, then upgrade once you're sure.
Which is better for freelancers?
If you build sites for clients, Webflow lists Freelancers and Agencies as audiences and has Workspace plans. Pricing there is per site, so costs scale with the number of client sites. Wix offers Wix Studio and a Hire a Professional resource. If you're a freelancer using a site as your own portfolio, either works. Wix has an online portfolio option, and Webflow's Basic plan is enough for a simple, no-CMS portfolio.
